New to DriveShare in 2024, this classic Porsche 911 is a special one ready to give you the exhilarating experience of old-school, analog driving. As a 1976 RSR backdate made famous by the iconic 1973 Carrera RSR, it doesn’t get much more visceral than this.
A raw driving experience is the key here - no driver aids, no power steering, not even a radio; with little more than a 5-speed manual connecting power to the rear wheels through a 2.7L flat-6, this isn't a GT cruiser made to combine speed and comfort. This car is for the person who wants to experience the sensation of driving. It connects you to the road in a way modern cars can’t offer. It’s an analog, rough, old-school racer, and it’s exhilarating.
And where better to experience than some of the best driving roads in the country? All trips include by request an extensive list of great driving roads around the Bay Area. We may have world famous scenic highways, but the best roads around here sit a bit more off the beaten path.
Some key (and some unexpected) features and benefits to the car:
Targa Top — on / off for open air cruising or a warm cabin feel
Storage — Surprisingly, 2 carry-on’s sized 22.7" x 15.4" x 9.6" (for reference, the Away “Bigger” carry-on) can fit in the frunk, with room for 2 more in the back seat; or, 2 standard sized golf bags can also fit across the back seat, as can another human, although rather uncomfortably.
Phone Charging — one creature comfort none of us want to go without: a USB connection to keep your phone charged.
Reliability — an 8-month overhaul of the mechanical components in early 2024 means this car’s mechanical reliability is nearly as good as when it was brand new.
Stick Shift — A 5-speed manual connected to a flat-6. Honestly it’s hard to get much better.
When you experience driving like this, you fall in love with driving all over again. I can’t wait to share this experience with you!
Aftermarket Fuchs 17 inch wheels with wide 315 rear tires. Tires are Nitto NT05 performance tires. The car is best driven in the dry as these can be a bit slippery in the wet.
Brakes are OEM, and were confirmed to be in great working condition during the 8 month mechanical overhaul.
5 speed Porsche 915 transmission, recently overhauled. Among other items, replaced transmission, replaced clutch cable, and resurfaced clutch pad.
The car will be parked in the lot across the street from Safeway, just west of Equator Coffee. We will review a list of important things to know, including guest responsibilities and operation of the car. Returns will be at the same place.
