The "Silver Devil" and I have been together since 1995, when (actually looking for a convertible 60s Impala) I purchased her from a dentist in Tucson, Arizona. I've now owned her for almost 30 years.
I named her the "Silver Devil" because she had a jealous streak that manifested itself as breaking down or suffering a failure (like stalling or unresponsive headlights) whenever I had a girl in the car with me! The Silver Devil didn't care for other females if they were potential competition.
Her original colors were white exterior and red interior, but when I purchased her she had a beautiful exterior of pearl silver and a messy interior of red-dyed-black. I had to re-do the interior for many reasons, not the least of which was the overwhelming smell of cat urine. So, I stripped out and redid the interior in black and purchased a new soft-top.
The Silver Devil has had many mechanics over the years, from Washington DC to Los Angeles to Phoenix and now North Carolina. But her hands-down favorite will always be from Burbank, CA. Dick Guldstrand - known as "Mr. Corvette", was a Penske champion at Daytona and Sebring, and will always a champion in our hearts. It was an honor that Dick took a wrench to the Silver Devil within the first 5-minutes of meeting her.
As Dick told me one day at the garage: "You know, her numbers don't match and she's not a "correct" car according to collectors, but every time someone comes in here and lays eyes on her, they always say 'THAT' is a beautiful car!"
