What do you get when you cross a cranky scorpion with a Disney cute mouse, and send it to Starbucks for a triple shot espresso? Welcome to the Fiat 500 Abarth!
Known as the Cinquecento when it was originally released in 1957, the original Fiat 500 had a whopping 13 hp coming from its air cooled 479cc two cylinder engine! One of the original peoples cars, the fiat 500 preceded the Mini in the UK by almost 10 years. However, small, light, nimble, ingenious in its rear engine, simple and efficient design, a power house it was not! Enter Carlo Abarth, an italian racecar and motorcycle drive with a penchant for engineering, Abarth started modifying small light and nimble cars, tunging them into competitive race cars. Enter the Fiat 500, a perfect recipe for Abarths' recipe for a winning car!
Fast forward to the present and we have the modern version of Abarth's modified Fiat peoples car, the Fiat 500 Abarth. Small and light, using a turbo charged version of the Fiat 500s twin air, 4 cylinder engine, the Abarth ups the ante just a bit! Adding an intercooled turbo, the Abarth puts out 160 hp, compared to the normal cars 100. More importantly, it makes 170 lb/ft of torque at 2500 rpm, making this one hyper little mouse! Grunting, spitting, farting and growling, the exhaust on this car definitely wants you to know its here to play! Its not a prancing horse badge, but its not for a lack of trying!!
With an upright driving position, a sport driving mode that increases throttle response and tightens the steering, this little car is a wonder to drive here on Maui's narrow twisting roads. Perfect for a couple on vacation, this little car gets great gas mileage, has room for two with reasonable amount of luggage, and can go on any road here on Maui with no issue.
If you want a little car with an attitude that has handling and acceleration that stands up to its "Hey, look at me!!" sound, then the Abarth will definitely be a grin inducing addition to your vacation!
