I'm a local Realtor based in Palm Springs, CA. I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. The idea of owning and driving a 1920s or 1930s car always enchanted me. In 2024, I joined the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). Soon after that, I attended "Model A Days" at The Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners, MI, and was hooked. I acquired "The Bishop" from a gentleman in Illinois who'd purchased it about a year earlier, only to find driving it too challenging. (The steering, brakes, and transmission are all manual; the transmission is asynchronous and requires double-clutching to change gears.)
You'll see that the insured value is $25,000. While not chump-change, it's not in the stratosphere like many 1960s and 70s cars. Many Model As that require some restoration are available for around $10,000. They make an excellent entry-level vehicle for the classic car enthusiast at just about any age. In fact, it's a blast to show kids a car older than their parents, grandparents, and maybe even their great-grandparents!
I thoroughly enjoy working on and maintaining this 1929 Ford. I hope to own a second Model A someday, specifically a Tudor. It seems these cars are like potato chips. You can't have just one!
